Celebrating our Nurses at Coombe Abbey

Oct 25, 2021.

On Monday 11th October, we celebrated our wonderful International Nurses with Afternoon Tea at Coombe Abbey, in collaboration with University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW).

Meeting the Nurses

It was wonderful to meet some of the 250+ Nurses we have successfully placed with UHCW, and talk to them about their experience so far; Including how far they have travelled to be here, what they think of the weather, and how for many, coming here is a first time, completely new experience!

UHCW – our collaborative partners

It was also great to spend time with our partners at UHCW Trust who have provided fantastic support on our hugely successful, collaborative project that involved delivering cohorts of Nurses for UHCW in as little as 6 weeks from the recruitment request. The direct and positive impact to the overall vacancy rate was immediate and we look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Trust for many years to come.

Our CEO Deenu Patel and Managing Director David Newton were also there to personally thank everyone involved for their hard work and commitment.

A fascinating history

The day started with welcome drinks and a Monastic welcome from a Coombe Abbey monk, and it was fascinating to discover the rich history of the place; including ghost stories, a family curse, the royal connection (Princess Elizabeth, daughter of James 1 spent five years there) and the part it played in the foiled Gunpowder plot set by Guy Fawkes back in 1605!

Tea and prizes

After the monk’s fascinating talk, we all made our way to enjoy our Afternoon Tea. The tea flowed, the chocolates were unwrapped, dainty finger sandwiches eaten and the scrumptious cakes too! The fun continued with our fantastic prize draw for our International Nurses and the three lucky winners were:

Anju Sathyadeven who won a Spa day for two

Jyoti Esther – who won a Hotel Chocolat gift set

Mithu Francis – who won a Body Shop gift set

We hope all our lucky prize winners enjoy their prizes!

A stunning landscape

We also took the opportunity to stroll through Coombe Abbey’s 500 acres of stunning gardens (designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown back in 1771) and take in the incredible views on what was a wonderfully sunny day. We were also lucky enough to see the timely installation of ‘Standing with Giants’, an amazing art project created in honour of our NHS workers, who have given so much, with many paying the ultimate price – for the freedom and benefit of others. Set in the gardens at Coombe, visitors can walk and move amongst 300 life-sized NHS inspired figures.

Thank you so much to everyone who attended, and for all the amazing work you do looking after the nation’s health.
